Abstract: This research aims to further understanding in the roles which guns play in prominent media. Two web pages were scraped to make three datasets. The first came from scraping the NRA’s ‘Gun of the Week’ series, and the second came from the Internet Movie Firearms Database (IMFDB). The NRA dataset looked at each firearm review’s word count, keywords, and specifications of each gun reviewed. The first IMFDB dataset examined each weapon on the dataset along with the kinds of media the weapon appeared in, along with specifications for each weapon. The second IMFDB dataset examined every film on the dataset along with how many guns appeared in the film, and the budget and gross revenue of each film. After running descriptive statistics and initial bivariate analysis, linear regressions were ran on the first IMFDB dataset to determine if there is a relationship between the type, length and weight of a gun vs the number of appearances in different forms of media. Linear regressions were ran on the second IMFDB dataset to determine if there is a relationship between revenue and number of gun appearances amongst different film genres.
